A
baby is an inestimable blessing and bother
-Mark Twain
Dear
Parents,
Nursing your baby is a challenge, a responsibility,
a privilege, and above all, a thrilling
experience. You have no choice but to undergo
this exciting involvement in the growth
process of your children. The only choice
you have is how to do it carefully or carelessly
or in other words as well informed parents
or as ignorant parents.
As a mother, your task starts the moment
you have conceived. You have to provide
the per-natal care to the baby inside you
with the help and guidance of your Health
Care Provider. However, your real challenge
starts the day your child has come out of
your body. It demands from you to:
Keep
Your Baby Neat and Clean:
An infant is highly vulnerable to infection.
It is imperative therefore not only to keep
him/her clean but also the environ. Ensure
that any body wishing to hold your baby
has clean hands and is not having any infection.
Breast-feet
Your Child:
If possible feed your baby on your milk.
Beast milk is not only a feed for your child
but also the medicines and tonic that he
may need as an infant. It will protect your
child from stomach upsets, diarrhoea and
constipation, and skin troubles.
Breast-Feeding
has other
important advantages as well. The most important
are:
* As a mother you will feel better
yourself psychologically.
* Your pelvic organs will return to normal
more quickly
* The quality of your skin will improve.
Breast feeding is nature’s
one of the ways to keep a woman young and
beautiful
Monitoring
The Weight: Babies
grow fast. For the first few days after
the birth a baby may lose a few ounces,
but he/she is usually back to birth weight
by tenth day. After this, your baby should
gain from four to seven ounces a week for
the first three months. By the time the
baby is six months old, he/she should be
double of his/her birth weight and tripled
after the completion of one year.
Dressing
Your Baby: Dress
your baby suitably to the season. Ensure
that his/ her clothes are loose enough to
give him/her enough room to quick and squirm
for developing his/her muscles.
