The
man experiences the highest unfolding of
his creative powers not through asceticism,
but through sexual happiness. There is,
however, a big if attached to it! It is
an exalted activity only if it is safely
done.
What
Is Safest Sex?
Ideally,
the safest sex is the sex between uninfected
monogamous partners i.e. between husband
and wife.
Risk
of
Unsafe Sex
Besides,
Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B, Genital
Herpes and many other infections, unsafe
sex may end into one of the most dreaded
diseases called AIDS
What
Is
HIV and AIDS
Human
Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a chronic
condition that slowly but persistently destroys
the body helper ‘T’ cells. These cells direct
the immune system response against microorganisms
and some tumors. HIV is not AIDS, however.
AIDS is defined as the presence of HIV infection
plus one or both of the following:
 |
A
helper T cell count of less than 200
against the normal count of 600 to
1000. (The tests carried out to establish
HIV are called ELISA and Western Blot) |
 |
Development
of an “opportunistic” infection that
occurs when the immune system is not
working effectively. |
Look
At
These Statistics
Since
HIV was identified in 1970s, more than 4
crore people around the globe have been
infected with the virus and more than 2.8
crore people have died from AIDS.

The
Polygamous
Philanderers
Use
Condoms not to eliminate but to minimize
the risk of AIDS. They are extremely
important medical devices that can
protect you from a number of Sexually
Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

Condoms
For Men
Latex
Condoms:
As on date, latex condoms are the strongest
and most reliable barrier against pregnancy
and STDs including AIDS and Hepatitis B.
Polyurethane Condoms: These plastic condoms
are for those who are allergic to latex. However,
their success rate against pregnancy and STDs
is not yet known
Ten
Commandments
For Using
Condoms
| 1. |
It
is vitally important to know how to use
condoms correctly. It is always advisable
to talk about them with your partner-in-bed.
It might actually make your relationship
better because of the potential for less
guilt and fewer regrets. Also take the following
precautions |
| 2. |
Mr.
Polygamous, always, always and always use
a condom during any sexual activity vaginal,
oral or anal. |
| 3. |
Open
the package carefully so that you don’t
damage the condom. |
| 4. |
Press
the air out of the condom tip before putting
it on. An air bubble can cause the condom
to tear off or come off. |
| 5. |
If
you are not circumcised, make sure that
the foreskin is pulled back before you put
on the condom. |
| 6. |
Place
the tip of the rolled-up condom over the
firm penis, with the rim on the outside. |
| 7. |
As
you unroll the condom over the entire penis,
make sure that there is enough room–at least
a half-inch of space–at the tip for semen
to collect. (These days some condoms have
a reservoir tip that solves this problem).
However check the package. |
| 8. |
Smooth
out air bubble to ensure that the condom
fits securely |
| 9. |
Never
reuse a condom. Even if you have put it
incorrectly, start over with a new one. |
Condoms
For Women
These
are relatively strong but somewhat awkward devices
that do not work as well as the male condoms
in preventing pregnancy. Nonetheless, they do
offer protection against HIV infection and probably
other STDs as well. In any case, it is a better
option for women if they insist upon their bed-partners
to use condoms.
Other
Sources of
HIV and AIDS
There
are a few other sources of contacting HIV/AIDS
beside having sexual intercourse with an HIV/AIDS-infected
person. They include:
|
*.
|
Transfusion
of infected blood
|
|
*.
|
Sharing
intravenous drug syringes
|
|
*.
|
Getting
tattooed by dirty needles.
|
|
*.
|
Parental
Legacy Infants exposed to HIV before birth
|
Prevention
of HIV Infection
And AIDS
Remember
that no vaccine, as on date, prevents HIV infection,
and no cure is known at this time. All available
treatments can only prolong the life of people
infected with the virus as well as of those
with full blown AIDS. Therefore, prevention
is still the key for avoiding this dreadful
disease. Prevention demands avoiding risky behaviour
and ensuring that HIV infected blood, semen,
vaginal fluid, or breast milk does not enter
your body. This you can do if you:
|
*.
|
Abstain
from sex with people whose sexusal history
is uncertain.
|
|
*.
|
You
choose to use condom while having sex.
|
|
*.
|
Never
share injection equipment and keep it
clean and sterilized.
|
|
*.
|
Don’t
share razors and toothbrush.
|
|
*.
|
Don’t
breast-feed your child if you are having
the infection.
|
|
|
|
You
cannot get
HIV Infection
|
|
From
social kissing (closed mouth). Deep
open mouthed kissing is not completely
safe.
|
|
From
shaking hands with the infected person.
|
|
From
hugging.
|
|
From
sharing the same air with infected
persons at public places as cinema,
shopping complex, office or school.
|
|
From
clothes, beds or toilets.
|
|
From
sharing foods and dishes.
|
|
From
caring for an AIDS patient, such as
bathing them, feeding them or cleaning
them.
|
|
From
mosquitoes, files or bedbugs. HIV
cannot live and multiply in mosquitoes.
|
|
HIV
cannot survive for long outside the
human body, it dies when dried, exposed
to heat and in contact with detergents.
